Cheers! Mobile Application

Background

We were tasked to find an everyday problem and help fix it with a native iOS application. We were given two and a half weeks to create a finalized prototype.

We created an app to help users make drinks with ingredients in their cabinets.

The Problem

We wanted to achieve the creation of a drink from the user’s ingredients within their cabinets. We have observed that users need a convenient, fast, and easy to operate application to create a drink because they want a place to find fun and new drinks for themselves and their guests from ingredients they have at home.

The Solution

We created an application that would solve for creating a drink from existing ingredients in a home cabinet.

Step 1: User Research

Interview Plan

The team conducted research through a number of diverse interviews. From the interviews our team created an affinity diagram categorizing the information we found in our interviews into three main takeaways.

Pain Point

budgeting while providing alcohol while hosting a get together

Pain Point

would like more go to, easy drink options at home

Convenience

would rather make an easy drink than a favorite

User Persona

We created a guy named Ted who we believed would be a target user for our app. We had four key takeaways from Ted’s persona.

Ted wants to easily gain knowledge on drink recipes

1

Ted wants to use the ingredients he has at home to make drinks

2

Ted wants to stay within his budget by using his own ingredients

3

Ted wants to impress and entertain his guests

Step 2: Definition & Ideation

Problem Statment

Our application was designed to achieve the creation of a drink from the user’s ingredients within their cabinets. We have observed that users need a convenient, fast, and easy to operate application to create a drink because they want a place to find fun and new drinks for themselves and their guests from ingredients they have at home. How might our application improve creating drink options from their cabinets so our users can generate a cheerful environment for themselves and their guests?

Story Board

We created a user story for Ted based on what we feel his experience using the app would be while preparing for a party.

Competitor Analysis

We researched two direct competitors and and indirect competitors. We wanted to find weaknesses in our competitors and be able to capitalize on those opportunities.

We had three main takeaways from our competitor analysis.

Direct: Saucy and My Cocktail Pro

Indirect: Mini Bar

Create a more thorough app to have a one-stop-shop for at home drink making

1

Create an expereince to enjoy drinking at home

2

Create a larger drink and recipe database

3

Step 3: Prototyping & Testing

User Flow

We created a user flow to easily add ingredients, get a costumized drink, randomize a drink and share what you are drinking with your friends and family.

Lo-Fi Prototype

We started with grayscale Lo-Fi prototypes after completing the user flow.

Guerilla Testing

We conducted guerilla testing based on our greyscale lo-fi prototypes.

From our testing we had three main takeaways.

On-Boarding

A smooth onboarding process is important for guiding the user into the application.

1

Call Outs

Clear call outs to buttons through hierarchy, color, etc. were important in order for the user to easily find the correct items to click on.

2

Streamline

Create a solution that simplified and streamlined the prototype designs into one.

3

Step 4: Iterating & Hi-Fi Prototyping

Digital Wireframes

We created Hi-Fi prototypes based on the greyscale Lo-Fi prototypes and the guerilla testing feedback.

Step 5: Conclusion

Steps

In conclusion, the team created an application called “Cheers” that allowed users to gain access to drink recipes from the ingredients they had in their own home.

Step 2: Definition & Ideation
Step 3: Prototyping & Testing
Step 4: Iterating and Hi-Fi Prototype
Step 5: Conclusion

Future Opportunities

Build out features with iOS prototypes

1

User testing with the iOS prototype

2

Further branding
